# 330 - October 24th, 2012
Greetings one and all - if you are sitting comfortably
then I shall begin...
Talking of ‘sitting comfortably’, no doubt the person at
PG & E who made the call to shut off the power in Boonville at 9pm last
Saturday evening was doing just that at the time. Unfortunately for the
restaurants/bars in town, whose staff had rushed and scrambled around to close and get out before
darkness descended in the expectation that this would happen, and who were no
doubt very upset to loose the Saturday night business, the outage did not happen
until midnight and they could have remained open until their usual closing
times. It says alot about the county-wide malaise when it comes to such
agencies and the general public’s feelings about their inefficiencies, that
many folks were not at all surprised, although many questioned the wisdom of
making such a decision for a Saturday night in the first place…
Moving on… Public
Service Announcements… Calendars and pens at the ready... #765 – The Vets from
Mendocino Animal Hospital will return to the Farm Supply in the Valley once
again this month – tomorrow, Thursday, Oct 25 from 2-3:30pm. If you are a
previous client you can call them 48 hours in advance (462-8833) to ensure that
your pet’s charts are brought ‘over the hill’ and also order any medications
your pet might need. New customers and their pets are always welcome and they
will be back in the Valley on three Thursdays in November… #766 – KZYX & Z
Pledge Drive is from Sat, Oct 20 to Sun, Oct 28. Please give generously… #767 –
It’s your best opportunity to get rid of all that ‘nasty stuff’ that you don’t
want around your property all winter – the Haz Mat people are in town at the
Fairgrounds parking lot from 9am-1pm on Fri/Sat, Oct 26/27. Call 895-3011 if
you have any questions about what they will and will not accept… #768 – This
coming Friday, Oct 26, Lauren’s Restaurant is the venue for the visit to the
Valley of ‘celtic pipe rock’ band, ‘Celtica’ – featuring a bunch of Austrians,
a Scotsman, and local bag-piper Wendy Rowe. The show starts at 9pm following
the usual dinner hours …#769 – It’s the final Boonville Farmer’s Market of the
year this coming Sat, Oct 27 from 10am to 12:30pm and will be followed by an
end of season pot luck. ‘From farm to fork’ – bring your own settings… #770 - the
31st annual Chestnut Gathering is on Saturday Nov 3 at the Zeni
Ranch from 10am-3:30pm, rain or shine. These 100 year-old dry-farmed European
seedling chestnut trees are a testament to the sustainability of tree crops.
Pick your own fresh chestnuts off the ground for $3.00/lb. Please bring: Potluck
dish (re-heating oven available) and your own cup, plate, napkins and utensils.
Bring your wine, fruit, nut, or vegetable harvests to show us what works for
you. Call Barbara/Rob Goodell 895-3897 for further details…
Well, with
the 3-Dot Lounge undergoing refurbishment and remoddelling, I have little more
to add this week and I think it’s time to take my leave… So, until we talk
again - ‘Keep the Faith’; be careful out there; stay out of the ditches; think
good thoughts; please remember to keep your windows cracked if you have pets in
your vehicle; and may your god go with you… Oh, and of course, one final
request, “Let us prey”… Humbly yours, Turkey Vulture...
p.s. You can contact me with words of support/abuse
either through the Letters Page or by e-mail at <turkeyvulture1@earthlink.net>

Hi, Silver Swan – behaving yourself? Hopefully not!
p.p.s.
On the sheep, Grace...
